Nov. 15, 2006- Inflation in Lebanon is forecast to rise sharply to seven percent by the end of 2006 due to Israel's devastating summer offensive, the central bank governor has said. "Studies show that the rise of inflation to seven percent is due to the war," Riad Salameh said in an interview with As-Safir newspaper Wednesday. |

Minority stake to float on dubai, london bourses Nov. 08, 2006- Oger Telecom, a subsidiary of the Saudi Oger company owned by the Hariri family, announced Wednesday that it plans to float a minority stake on the London and Dubai stock exchanges by the end of this year. Worth an estimated $1.25 billion, the international public offering (IPO) would far exceed any of the international floats on the London Stock Exchange in the past two years. |

Consumers should expect high-speed DSL Internet service in March 2007, the director of a local Internet service provider (ISP) said on Tuesday, although details of the rollout such as the price of installation and monthly rates have yet to be settled. The Arab Thought Foundation announced today the topic of 'Lebanon stronger with Arab solidarity' for its fifth annual conference, Fikr 5, to be held in Beirut on December 2 and 3 2006. Nov. 07, 2006- This year's topic has been specifically chosen in response to the dramatic events that have occurred in Lebanon. Board members believe the change of topic reflects the Arab Thought Foundation's aim of helping to rebuild Lebanon following the massive destruction caused by the recent conflict. The goal of the foundation is to keep Lebanon on the international agenda as a centre of a rich Arabic culture and to ensure international recognition of Beirut as a unique and exceptional Arab capital. |

Paul Morcos, coordinator of the Lebanese Legislation Monitor, has suggested a basket of amendments to the banking-secrecy law and the law to fight money laundering which prevent exploiting banking secrecy in crimes, violations committed by transitory clients and debtors who are either defaulting or declared bankrupt. Nov. 04, 2006- Analyzing the conceivable role of banking secrecy following the killing of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, and the collapse of Bank Al-Madina, Morcos also suggests mechanisms for the efficacy of the accountability and transparency of both senior functionaries and politicians. |

The Lebanese government signed a $71 million grant agreement with the World Bank on Friday to support the reconstruction effort following this summer's war with Israel. Nov. 04, 2006- The trust fund, approved by the World Bank's board of governors in September at the annual IMF/World Bank financial summit, has been allocated from the Bank's surplus so it does not exacerbate the public debt burden. |
