Jaipur foot for Lebanon victims |

 It's one of the finest prosthetic limbs in the world and the Jaipur foot is now going to revive hope for victims in war torn Lebanon.
Apr. 12, 2007- On a request from the United Nations, doctors and technicians from the Pink City will be in Beirut to fit the Jaipur Foot to civilian casualties.
There is hectic activity at the Jaipur Foot centre as artificial limbs are readied for the war victims.
Six skilled workers and doctors will fit the Jaipur Foot for over 200 people in Beirut from next week.
As the workers get set for a dangerous war zone, they hope their effort will rebuild the lives of those crippled by the war.
"My family is worried at what will happen to us in that war ravaged country. But we tell them not to worry as our service is badly needed there. We hope to serve the disabled there and that helps us to forget our fears," said Mitanshu Kumar, Limb maker.
Easy to wear
Patients can walk, climb trees and even sit cross-legged with the Jaipur foot, the only limb in the world that can be worn without shoes.
Makers of this foot say it will greatly suit the largely Muslim population in Lebanon.
"In the western design for artificial feet, one must necessarily wear shoes which means you can' t enter a Mosque. Secondly, to perform the Namaaz, one needs to kneel which is not at all possible in the western design. But Jaipur Foot permits all this," said D R Mehta, Chairman, Mahavir Viklang Sahyata.
Besides being lighter and more flexible, the Jaipur Foot costs just $40 per limb. It is far less than all other options and is now exported to over two dozen countries.
From the modest centre in the western city, the Jaipur Foot has traveled all over the world, bringing hope to victims in several war torn countries like Afghanistan, Somalia and Vietnam.
Now this project in Lebanon is clearly another step in the right direction for this noble mission.
