National Bloc protests Bishops Council's criticism of rival camps

The National Bloc expressed dismay concerning the Maronite Bishops' monthly statement Thursday. "How could they lay responsibility for the current crisis equally on the parliamentary majority and the opposition?" asked the bloc in a statement issued following their weekly meeting.
"The persistence of both sides to stick to their positions is placing the country in a big crisis and complete paralysis," the bishops said in their statement Wednesday. "The bishops' statement has put on equal footing the victims of March 14 forces and those benefiting from those murders," the bloc's statement added. "Is it possible to consider the defenders of Lebanon's sovereignty and independence as equal to those defending Syrian and Iranian interests in Lebanon?" it asked.
The bloc also slammed the opposition, accusing it of paralyzing the activity of the Parliament, withdrawing from the government after granting it confidence and hampering economic activity in Downtown Beirut. It also criticized Hizbullah over its individual decision to wage war. The party said that while March 14 MPs were "locked" in the Phoenicia Hotel for fear for their lives, March 8 MPs can travel anywhere safely, for they share the same objectives as the assassins.
