“On this day, I would like to address the Lebanese people in general and our people in Beirut in particular. Today is the day of victory; not the victory of some people over some others, because in Lebanon all the Lebanese people win together.

We have won with the return to the national pact, to the restoration of lost balance among the components of the Lebanese society. This lack of balance has led us into various political problems, caused the interference of many countries in our internal affairs, and undermined our internal stability. As such, we have been going through a crisis that has lasted more than 2 years and a half now.

I have previously addressed the United Nations and I warned of the possibility of reaching a conflict in a letter that I sent to UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, but unfortunately, no one listened to us. I have spoken to the Lebanese people many times before and I told them not to bring in weapons because they will burn.

We have advised the international community against the exaggerated support for the unconscious Lebanese government because this government does not represent the Lebanon, but merely a small faction of Lebanon. We advised them not to support a government that has marginalized two major Lebanese communities and blackmailed one.

Today, we go back to our normal life. Our streets will be safe and so will be our city.

We will look back to our near past to discover the perpetrators of the assassinations that were committed in Lebanon and look upon the future to rebuild our country. These events have gotten us back on the right track.

It is on this basis that we will deal with each other: no one will be persecuted, but those among the political leadership who were involved in violations and who went beyond their prerogatives will have to be held accountable for their actions.

I hope that by the end of the day, all the roads would reopen and hopefully we would be able to evacuate both the tents and the Grand Serail at the same time.”
