11 Resignations put an end to the awaited Syrian-Saudi initiative, which was meant to resolve months of political tensions.

These resignations put an end to the  stalled situation. The last few months saw internal tensions blocking the work of the government. While the awaited Special Tribunal for Lebanon indictment has been looming with fears of the reactions that could reignite tensions between Hariri and Hizbullah followers.

The move of the opposition is in-line with the constitution, 11 ministers withdrew from Hariri's unity government Wednesday, forcing its collapse and plunging the country back into crisis. That happened while Hariri was meeting Sarkozy in Paris, after a critical stay in New York saw the end of the talks. Some blamed the USA and its allies for the failure of the initiative.
