With the consultation coming to an end, and under the pressure of Hariri's supporters protests, Mikati returns to the Premiership
After 2 days of consultations, and amid sectarian tensions after Hariri's Future Movement called for a "Day of Rage" across Lebanon, President Suleiman nominates Najib Mikati to form the new cabinet. A move criticized by Hariri's supporters who failed to keep their calm as they lost the parliamentary majority, a power shift caused mainly by Jumblatt's and Tripoli's MPs supporting the opposition. Hariri's camp collapse is a first since 2005, when the assassination of Rafik Hariri pushed the 14th of February coalition to power. The opposition return to power was seen as a reaction to fears that the STL indictment will accuse Hezbollah members which might ignite sectarian strife across a fragile political situation and a deep national divide. Another factor was the ever growing accusations of corruption to the Future Movement camp who was the main player in the financial and political decisions since 1992. Two decades of heavy borrowing and weak economical vision that saw the national debt grow to beyond 60 billion USD, more that 150% of GDP. Analyst say that despite riots across Lebanon, today was business as usual.
